Project Wolbachia

Tampines is making strides towards a dengue-free estate! Project Wolbachia is finally moving into the next phase, following a 70% reduction of the Aedes mosquito population at Tampines West in Phase 2. In Phase 3, several novel devices have been developed with local and international companies to support and improve the efficiency of the project. We now have the automated cart developed by Verily – a Google affiliate – which dispenses male Wolbachia mosquitoes at the Tampines West study site!

If you reside near Tampines Ave 4, St 81 or St 91 – please do not be alarmed if you notice a sudden increase in the number of mosquitos around. They are harmless and they do not bite!

With your continued support for the project in using such innovative technologies, we hope to improve public health, and advance research and economic opportunities. Nevertheless, it is still important that residents play a part in keeping our estate dengue-free! Do the mozzie wipeout in your homes:

  1. Clear stagnant water in your home! Tip the vase, turn the pail and flip the flowerpot table
  2. Remove uncovered drinks, cups or water containers
  3. Loosen the hardened soil
  4. Clear the roof gutter and place BTI insecticide
